What Saints QB Drew Brees Told His Kids After Breaking Record

Brees threw his 498th touchdown pass on the 62-yard throw to Tre'Quan Smith on the play on which the quarterback moved past Manning. Brees still needs 42 touchdown passes to surpass Manning's record of 539, something the Saints quarterback could achieve next season if he maintains his current level of play.

In a congratulatory video posted on the Denver Broncos official Twitter, a short video shows Manning chopping tomatoes while lamenting his lost record. And thanks to you, that's over now. "All your hard work and dedication has paid off".

Saints officials said Brees also would hand his uniform over to the Hall of Fame after the game.

Brees is in his 18th season out of Purdue.

"Drew for 1,000 days I've held the record for all-time passing yards in the NFL".

After ugly loss to Saints, Washington Redskins face crucial week ahead
Brees enters Monday night's game against the Washington Redskins just 201 yards shy of the record, now held by Peyton Manning. There's no good time for injuries, but this week is even worse with less time to recover due to playing on Monday night.

Brees was wearing a microphone for broadcaster ESPN and was recorded telling teammates, family members, and head coach Sean Payton how much he loved them.

The 39-year-old, who has been playing in the league since 2001, was just the fifth quarterback ever to pass for more than 53,063 yards - and is on pace to hold the record for quite some time.

The game featured other touches meant to honor Brees.

Congratulations on such a great career that is still going strong for Drew Brees. While making his mark in SD, Brees suffered a potentially career-ending shoulder injury in 2005 that caused many teams to pass on him in free agency.
