Motherboards are already available and range from $129.99, all the way up to $599.99. As with all chips in the K-series, it's unlocked for overclocking, with eight cores and 16 threads, and the company says that it's the best gaming CPU in the world. The Core i7-9700K will have 8 cores, but lack the hyperthreading capability of its bigger brother. This will be the first generation to feature new packaging in quite some time as Intel experiments with a dodecahedron of sorts for the 9th generation lineup.

Amazon just started listing the 8-core Core i9 9900K. The 9700K will have two more cores than the i7-8700K with 1.5MB L3 cache per core. Instead, this new high-end Coffee Lake processor runs for a noticeably higher $374 (about £290, AU$530) price. All of the 9th gen CPUs will work on current 300-series motherboards, as well as the new Z390 motherboards coming soon. If your PC is three or so years old at this point, then you should see a more substantial 41% boost in modern games. A Core i9-9980XE helped one of Intel's test machines transcode a 4K video file (the same one PCMag uses for its own CPU benchmarks) in 27 minutes using the Handbrake app, compared with 40 minutes for a system running the previous-gen Core i9-7980XE.

Take a look at our take on Intel vs AMD processors.

Aside from the Core i9-9900K, Core i7-9700K and Core i5-9600K, Intel also unveiled its new Core-X processors. In dual-mode we have 4.8GHz, while 4-core mode hits 4.7GHz and 6/8-core mode it'll reach 4.6GHz. The base and boost speeds are 3.7GHz and 4.6GHz respectively, and the cache comes in at 9MB.

What Saints QB Drew Brees Told His Kids After Breaking Record
Brees is in his 18th season out of Purdue. "Drew for 1,000 days I've held the record for all-time passing yards in the NFL". Saints officials said Brees also would hand his uniform over to the Hall of Fame after the game.

Core i9-9820X: 10C/20T, 3.3/4.1GHz base/boost, 165W TDP, $898 MSRP. Staying with the same 6C/6T configuration, the 9600K improves the base frequency by 100 MHz, while adding 300 MHz to the rated single-core Turbo Boost 2.0 clock speed.

Finally, Intel also announced the Xeon W-3175X workstation chip with an incredible 28 cores. AnandTech has a rundown of all the new Z390 motherboards if you need help selecting the ideal option for your new build.

It's important to note that the Intel's latest hardware includes fixes for the controversial and critical Meltdown Variant 3 and L1 Terminal Fault issues.

Intel will also sell even more powerful Core X (for "extreme") CPUs-which are really Skylake-era designs-with many more cores starting in November.
