3000 people did not die in the two hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico.

President Trump just went full "birther", or "truther", or, well, crazy.

THE FACTS: Trump's denial of almost 3,000 deaths is baseless, however imprecise estimated death tolls can be from a disaster.

"Those are just the facts of what happens when a frightful hurricane hits an isolated place like an island", Ryan said when asked about Trump's tweet.

The study, which was conducted without the backing of any political group, surveyed 3,000 residences across the United States' territory and found Puerto Ricans died at a much higher rate in the four months following the hurricane than in the same time period a year earlier.

President Trump is pushing back at media claims that his administration's lackluster response to Hurricane Maria helps explain the devastating death toll in Puerto Rico.

"They hired.GWU Research to tell them how many people had died in Puerto Rico (how would they not know this?)", Trump added.

President Donald Trump tosses paper towels into a crowd in Puerto Rico previous year following Hurricane Maria. After that, it climbed to 64.

Puerto Rico's governor said last week that his administration has adopted new measures to better prepare for a disaster like Maria although he warned of limitations given the us territory's economic crisis. "This was long AFTER the hurricane took place".

Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, who is also retiring, said: "There is no reason to dispute these numbers".

On Wednesday, Puerto Rican officials said about 20,000 pallets of water bottles shipped to Puerto Rico after Maria went unused and became too contaminated to drink.

"No death is partisan and our brothers and sisters in Puerto Rico deserved better from @realDonaldTrump before, during, and after the hurricane", Democratic nominee and Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum tweeted. Several other Republican lawmakers from Florida similarly rejected Trump's words.

"Ron is focused on continuing to help our Puerto Rican neighbors recover and create opportunities for those who have moved to Florida succeed", Lawson said. He joined team president Sam Kennedy and players Chris Sale, Rick Porcello and Christian Vazquez to hand out medical supplies, water filtration systems and food and water. "I trust that this process was carried out properly", he said.

Millions of homes and businesses lost power after hurricane made landfall, making it the largest blackout in U.S. history and the second-largest in the world.

In fact, there are two categories of disaster deaths. For a hurricane, direct deaths include people who drown in a storm surge or flooding, are hit by flying debris or crushed in a wind-toppled building.

How did they get their figure?

The National Hurricane Center, when it gives hurricane tallies, only reports direct deaths. "When you see someone, the president, letting his own citizens die and then turning it around and saying they didn't really die, I think that's very similar to the acts of a dictator".
