Senate panel backs Trump's Supreme Court pick Kavanaugh

Flake wanted the Senate Judiciary Committee to hear from Dr. Christine Blasey Ford before moving forward with the confirmation hearing. Hirono also said Kavanaugh had been "credibly accused" but then lashed out at Republicans for "prejudging" Ford in advance of hearing her testimony. But Kavanaugh, who has denied all of the sexual assault allegations against him unequivocally, issued a passionate and defiant defense of his good name and character following Ford's participation in the hearing.

The Senate Judiciary Committee on Friday, following a vote in the affirmative to recommend Kavanaugh's nomination to the full Senate for a vote, has requested a delay in order for a week-long FBI investigation into the allegations.

With a 51-49 majority, Senate Republicans have little margin for error, especially given the fact that several Democrats facing tough re-election prospects this fall announced their opposition to Kavanaugh on Friday. Understand that Kavanaugh is not confirmed as a Supreme Court justice yet; we'll now sit through a series of votes leading up to a potential confirmation from the Senate itself.

Flake's Federal Bureau of Investigation deal could mean a weeklong delay in final Senate action on the nomination. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., asked to what degree of certainty she believed Kavanaugh assaulted her. Only the White House can do that, and President Trump announced Friday afternoon he would do so, ordering the FBI to investigate his nominee.

"In response to the Committee's request for information, I, MARK JUDGE, declare: The allegations in the Swetnick affidavit are so freakish that, even while suffering from my addiction, I would remember actions so outlandish".

That increases the pressure on a handful of colleagues who haven't yet said whether they back Kavanaugh: Republican Sens. But of course, these things don't prove that she wasn't raped as a young woman, so while Swetnick's sworn statement needs closer examination, it doesn't change the ultimate conclusion: Kavanaugh can not be confirmed to the Supreme Court with the allegations hanging over his head.

What I can say? "Her only fault was she didn't back down-takes a special courage to be #TanushreeDutta ", she said on Twitter . But I would like to say that whenever something like this does happen, it's really sad.

He further called the idea that his client and the other women who have come forward with complaints against Kavanaugh are conspiring to derail his nomination "ludicrous". Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) strongly implied that he would not support Kavanaugh unless the FBI first conducts an investigation in the next week. He denies the allegation.

Earlier, attorney Michael Avenatti revealed claims by a woman named Julie Swetnik, who alleged she was gang-raped at a drunken party around 1982, and that Kavanaugh and Judge were "present" at the time.

Republicans are reluctant for several reasons, including the likelihood that further investigations could push a vote past the November elections that may switch Senate control back to the Democrats and make consideration of any Trump nominee more hard. On Friday, she said she supported the idea of a delay in the planned Senate vote.

While some Republicans and Trump have called the allegations by Ford and the two other women part of a smear campaign, Ford told the committee she had no political motivation, adding, "I am an independent person and I am no pawn". "That's a lot of wisdom from a 10-year-old", he said chocking up.

The judge repeatedly refused to answer senators' questions about the hard-party atmosphere that has been described from his peer group at Georgetown Prep and Yale, treating them dismissively. Many viewed Kavanaugh's testimony as credible, too. But I never drank beer to the point of blacking out, and I never sexually assaulted anyone.
