You'll find a second-generation heart sensor coming together with an electrical heart sensor, the latter of which will eventually work with an electrocardiogram app to work out whether your heart is beating normally or if there are signed of atrial fibrillation, which could lead to other issues. The device is powered by Apple W2 chip, the Watch Series 3 includes faster Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. The Verge has details as well. Not only does the come with a case that's noticeably thinner, but Apple has also refreshed the materials used.

The Series 4 watch with watch OS 5 includes revolutionary health capabilities, including a new accelerometer and gyroscope, which are able to detect hard falls, and an electrical heart rate sensor that can take an electrocardiogram (ECG) using the new ECG app, which has been granted a classification by the USA federal agency Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In addition to the EKG readings, which simply monitor the heart's functions, the watch can detect irregular heartbeat rhythms and let users know about it.

The Watch Edition models are among several products Apple appears to have pruned from its lineup on Wednesday as it introduced new watches and iPhones.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has long emphasized the watch's health and fitness-tracking capabilities.

Florence floodwaters close Fayetteville Little River bridge
The storm dumped more than 8 trillion gallons (30 trillion liters) of rain on North Carolina, the weather service said. Florence has claimed eight lives in SC thus far, and flooding is expected to worsen later this week and into next.

For a market that is growing, these features in wearables will matter more and more.

If you've built up a large collection of Apple Watch bands over the last couple of years, however, there's some good news for you.

Apple said the EKG feature will be available to USA customers later this year, an indication that it may not be ready for launch. If it receives no response within a minute, the watch will automatically place an emergency call and message friends and family designated as emergency contacts.

Apple has apparently discontinued the high-end Watch Edition model of the Apple Watch.

Apple says it monitored some 2,500 people - measuring how they fell off ladders, missed a step while walking or got their legs caught in their trousers while getting dressed. Aside from Super Retina displays, Apple says both have the state-of-the-art features created to bring the best smartphone experience yet.
