A young American lady took a deep breath of fresh air during a break from presence at a full morning of tense panel discussions at an global summit on climate change which may define human future.

Zero fossil fuel energy, zero gas-guzzlers on the road, zero waste, zero Carbon dioxide emissions - dozens of cities, regions and companies made "zero" pledges on Thursday (Sept 13) at a global climate summit in San Francisco.

"Climate change is a global challenge and Washington ought to be leading from the front", Bloomberg said.

The CEO of Salesforce, one of the world's largest online business software companies, urged fellow technology leaders at the conference to help fight climate change.

Scientists have warned that global greenhouse gas emissions need to peak in 2020 and then rapidly decline in order to avoid catastrophic warming. Brown said the earth-imaging company has launched 150 satellites.

"China's leadership has been truly outstanding and I want to repeat the gratitude that people around the world feel for China and California", Gore said.

But that was only one of the many announcements made by cities, states and businesses as they celebrated their progress and reaffirmed their commitment to fighting climate change.
