Arsenal manager Unai Emery is excited about his baptism of fire in the Premier League on Sunday even though he could have wished for an easier first opponent than champions Manchester City.

"For me, that is the best message I can give the supporters. With the same players and also our new players with us, and with a new culture and new staff".

Midfielders Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling are back in contention for Manchester City's Premier League opener at Arsenal.

Another advantage that Emery probably has going into Sunday's game, and by extension the rest of the season, is the fact he has had more time working with most of the players who were not on World Cup duty for their national teams.

With standards of professionalism far higher and more uniform across all clubs, the quiet revolution at Arsenal's training ground this summer has not been as dramatic...

Jenkinson and Campbell have had extensive periods away from the club on loan while goalkeeper Ospina is back-up to new signing Bernd Leno and Petr Cech.

"Today, we had a meeting with the players to close all the possibilities to leave or come with more players", Emery said.

"We have a lot of ambition to start well on Sunday against the last winners of the Premier League".

"We want to start well, we want to play and we want to show our quality, our work in this month tactically and with our spirit", he said.

It will be interesting to see who Emery opts for in goal between Leno and Petr Cech but Sokratis is nearly certain to start on Sunday while Torreira will be a starter if he's deemed match fit after arriving back late to pre-season following the World Cup.

Emery praised City boss Guardiola, whom he faced at Barcelona while coaching Almeria and Valenca, saying: "His career as a player is bigger than mine and his career as a coach is also bigger than mine". He makes it hard for teams to play against them and will play 4-2-3-1.
