Warner Bros. and DC are developing a Supergirl movie penned by 22 Jump Street writer Oren Uziel, Deadline reports. The infamous film performed poorly at the box office and received blistering reviews. The next three films, Aquaman, Shazam and Wonder Woman 1984, certainly feel a little lighter than the previous fare.

More than 30 years after the last feature film attempt at bringing the super-cousin of steel to the big screen, a new Supergirl movie is in the works at Warner Bros. And expensive - Man of Steel, Batman Vs Superman and Justice League carried around $800 million in production budgets to gross a collective $2.1 billion, according to reported budget estimates.

The website notes that Supergirl would reflect a change in focus for the so-called DC Extended Universe following the appointment in January of Walter Hamada as head of DC Films, replacing Jon Berg and Geoff Johns. Uziel also wrote the most recent draft of the script for the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie, making his resume quite possibly the weirdest one we've seen in a while.

The character has been played by Melissa Benoist in the titular CW series that's heading into its fourth season, and is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller.

The article also comes out after the release of Mission: Impossible - Fallout starring Henry Cavill, which had the best opening for the franchise. But as there's no information on the upcoming film's plot, there's no telling what hijinks Supergirl could be getting into on the big screen. Because they're both from the same planet, Supergirl and Superman have a similar power set and the same vulnerability to Kryptonite.
