John only signed a permanent deal with the Gers ahead of the most recent January window, but Steven Gerrard has let him go having signed Jon Flanagan and Borna Barisic this summer.

Despite interest from Manchester United and Lyon in the 23-year-old, and a six-week pursuit by Everton, the defender was finally secured on a five-year deal for an initial €30.25m (£27.2m) plus €1.5m in add-ons. It is the best league in the world.

"I know about Everton's players and I look forward to being able to play with my new team". I am also determined to do my best for Everton.

But with the Everton squad still looking on the bulky side, it is not out of the question to consider potential European moves for the likes of Yannick Bolasie, Cuco Martina and Muhamed Besic.

Everton's season-long loan deal for Portugal's Gomes will see them pay 2.25 million euros and the player's wages.

Jose Mourinho reveals priority for deals after deadline day
Manchester United have to defy their own coach José Mourinho's fears of a season of doom and gloom when they kick off the Premier League campaign against Leicester City tomorrow.

Barcelona said they reserve the right to buy Mina back, while Gomes has cost Everton a £2m loan fee.

Everton had been willing to listen to offers for Congolese worldwide Bolasie, while Martina has been training with the reserves as he looks to force a £2m move away from Goodison Park.

Meanwhile, Gomes has been rendered surplus to requirements at Barcelona and has failed to become a regular in the Barca first team.

The relationship between Barcelona and Everton is believed to be strong, with left-back Lucas Digne already moving to Goodison Park from the Nou Camp in this window.
