The outlet is reporting their sources tell them Gunn did meet with studio chairman Alan Horn out of courtesy.

Despite the best efforts of his friends and the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy, it seems Disney will not rehire James Gunn. Gunn was sacked after some old social media posts of his were unearthed, and resurfaced by some alt-right agitators. The studio acted quickly to remove Gunn from directing the third installment, believing the comments were unacceptable in the Me Too era and were not in line with Disney's family-friendly image.

It's for sure that there are going to a be a lot of unhappy Marvel fans out there today and who knows how this will all play out with the cast being so open in their support of Gunn?

Gunn and his representatives with UTA scheduled the meeting with Horn to get a second chance, and Horn took the meeting as a chance to set everything straight.

The James Gunn situation is still being sorted out by Disney and Marvel, and the whole situation saddens one of the actors Gunn directed in the original Guardians of the Galaxy.

The meeting was said to be "civil and professional", but sources have claimed that Horn will not be changing his stance and they will continue production of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 without James. Gunn's career will not be negatively impacted in any way by this; he still has his devoted fans, his position of power, and everything except the Guardians franchise, which he notably took away from a female writer. Marvel Cinematic Universe boss Kevin Feige did not attend the meeting, and is said to stand by Disney's decision. The report says that Feige supports Disney's decision in not rehiring Gunn. Filming was scheduled to start this Fall in Atlanta, but it is unknown if the film will keep to this schedule. It is being speculated that the studios are planning on retaining Gunn's script for the film, but are expecting the replacement director to spend time on a rewrite in order to put their own stamp on it.
