In Northern California, a mechanic helping to fight the Carr Fire, burning around Redding, was killed in a traffic collision on Thursday, bringing the death toll from that blaze to eight, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CalFire) said. He also faces sentencing enhancements for arson of multiple structures. That blaze had burned burned more than 304,000 acres and injured two firefighters, as of Thursday morning.
They do similar work to any firefighter, working long hours and sleeping in camps with other inmates.
But some residents have chose to ignore evacuation orders and stay behind. "I got burned. I woke up and my stuff was all on fire".

"We have a responsibility to ensure that any large gathering is safe and being conducted legally", Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson told reporters. Officials reported progress in the fight against two major Northern California wildfires - one called the Mendocino Complex Fire that is the largest in state history - burning more than 100 miles (160 kilometers) north of Sacramento.
"They took me away last time for no [expletive] reason, I told them that I'd been vandalized", Clark said as the fire burned around him.
Arraignment for the man suspected of starting the Holy Fire will happen Friday with or without him after he refused to leave his jail cell for his first hearing.
The Holy Fire - named for Holy Jim Canyon where it began is one of almost 20 blazes across California.

Spitzer said the Holy Fire should be more appropriately named the "Holy Hell" fire.
The team has not confirmed that any structures have been destroyed since day one of the fire on August 6 when approximately 12 structures in Trabuco Canyon were destroyed.
The steep terrain was making it hard for fire engines to get to some of the flames, so the major weapons against the blaze are the aerial water drops, officials said.
