Apps and in-app purchases for macOS and iOS will be completely removed from the Affiliate Program but all other content types including music, movies, books and TV shows will remain in the program. The company is maintaining its referral rate of 7% for music, movies, books and TV programs. Movies, TV, Mac apps, Mac in-apps, iBooks, and paid apps now earn a 7 percent commission rate while iOS in-app purchases and iTunes Music earn a 2.5 percent commission rate. But the company isn't obligated to support reviewers that aren't building other sources of revenue, such as advertising, paid subscriptions or even direct patronage. "Through thick and thin, and every curveball the industry threw at us, we always had App Store affiliate revenue - which makes a lot of sense as we drive a ton of purchases for Apple".
