Building on the standard T8's 394bhp combined power figure, Polestar's very contemporary way of increasing power via upgraded software brings power up to an even more impressive total of 408bhp. But don't forget, Polestar isn't a new thing - prior to its spinoff as a standalone brand, the Swedish tuning arm has been responsible for some of the most entertaining Volvo cars to date.

Looking ahead, Volvo will release Polestar Engineered versions of the V60 and the XC60.

Volvo's T8 powertrain is comprised of a 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged engine, with an additional battery and electric motor mounted at the rear axle.

The Polestar Engineered-badged model will be based on the 400-horsepower plug-in hybrid S60 T8 Twin Engine.

Polestar may now be a manufacturer in its own right, but it's teaming up with Volvo for a new range of high-performance parts. "This strategy is firmly grounded in our shared belief in an electric future for the vehicle industry", said Håkan Samuelsson, president and CEO at Volvo Cars. The strut brace that supports them to enhance front-end handling is also taken from the 1. Polestar emblems, black chrome exhaust pipes and gold seat belts round out the package's visual enhancements.

Volvo will introduce the next-generation S60 on June 20 during an event held at its new Charleston, South Carolina, factory. "All components have been fine-tuned to work together, delivering a responsive and exciting drivers' auto".

These upgrades will be shown in full when the production S60 saloon is revealed in the USA next week.
