The North American countries won with 134 votes, or 67 percent, against an upstart campaign from Morocco, which garnered 65 votes, in the Wednesday morning vote in Moscow.
Earlier in the year, there were fears that opposition to US President Donald Trump could endanger the US-led bid for the 2026 World Cup, but those fears were allayed at the 68th Fifa Congress in Moscow, Russia on Wednesday. "Football today is the only victor".
The specific dates will be set by FIFA in the future, including the date for the FIFA World Cup Official Draw which usually takes place the December before the tournament (in this case December 2025).
Every one of FIFA's 200-plus members holds a single vote, and regions tend to vote in blocks. Whether FIFA also extends this courtesy to Mexico and Canada - the latter a relative nonentity in global soccer that has qualified for just one World Cup in 1986 - remains to be seen.

Under the United Bid proposal, the list of host cities for the world's most watched sporting event likely will include two or three in Canada, three in Mexico and 10 in the United States. Canada's sole World Cup appearance was in 1986 in Mexico, where they did not score a goal, losing to France, Hungry and the Soviet Union in the group stage.

So if the Senate measure passes, the two chambers will then have to reconcile their bills and send it to Trump to sign into law. Hong Kong-listed shares of ZTE were quoted at HK$14.98 in early trades, down from HK$25.6 before the suspension in April.
Canada has bid once before in 1986, but it failed. "We are all united in football", US Soccer president Carlos Cordeiro said. "It would be a shame if countries that we always support were to lobby against the USA bid".
