United States, Canada and Mexico awarded 2026 World Cup

Announced Wednesday morning, Canada joined forces with the United States and Mexico to form a "United Bid" for the 2026 World Cup and ended up beating out fellow finalist Morocco 134-65.

Estimated ticket prices for the potential matches in Kansas City would be $468 for quarter-final games and $609 for the third-place game.

The city has a chance to host warm-up friendly matches and perhaps other events ahead of the worldwide soccer competition, which returns to the United States for the first time since 1994.

Herdman said there is precedent for the nations involved in joint bids being granted entry, pointing to Japan and South Korea in 2002.

Chief among those is US President Donald Trump, whose "America First" approach might score well with his electoral base but may have made the United bid's task harder than it could ever have imagined.

While Canada has never hosted-or even qualified for-the men's World Cup, it can count on its more experienced co-hosts and current NAFTA partners.

The Fifa World Cup kicks off this weekend in Russian Federation, the undisputed number one sporting event on the planet, bigger than any of its contenders, generating more revenue coverage and eyeballs watching than all the other pretenders.
