No sanctions relief until NK's complete denuclearization

Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe spoke to Donald Trump after the summit, saying there was "great meaning in Chairman Kim's clearly confirming to President Trump the complete denuclearisation".

North Korean state television has aired its first video from Tuesday's unprecedented summit between the regime's leader, Kim Jong Un, and U.S. President Donald Trump.

The United States did, however, commit to suspending joint military exercises with South Korea, Trump told reporters before departing the summit site. Already, North Korea has criticized the USA and South Korea's military drills, saying they're not helpful for peace talks. "But I think we understand each other".

As for the underling concern that Trump and Kim interpreted the talks differently, Pompeo said, "I am confident that [North Koreans] understand what we're prepared to do". Trump at the time condemned the North Korean government and its lack of "basic human decency".

To China, the agreement sounded like one they had been pushing all along, a "suspension for suspension", where the United States stops military drills with South Korea in exchange for North Korea halting missile and nuclear tests.

Also on Thursday, North and South Korea held their first military talks in more than a decade.

Representatives of the European Union, Japan, China, and Russian Federation were among those commending the historic summit-the first between the leaders of the United States and North Korea-where the communist dictatorship reaffirmed a commitment to give up nuclear weapons.

All media in North Korea is controlled by the state and so the program's entirely positive view of Kim, the summit, and its results come as no surprise.

Freezing the regular military exercises with South Korea is a major concession to North Korea that has long claimed the drills were invasion preparations.

"True although it was light on details, I think this represents an overall positiveness in North Korea-U.S. relations which hadn't existed before". "I just tried to answer the emails and try to get out in front and say, 'I had nothing to do with this'". He said that Trump "made it very clear" that the suspension would only last while "good faith negotiations" continued. The poll found that Republicans were twice as likely as Democrats to say that the meeting lowered the threat of nuclear war, and they were three times as likely to say that both sides would follow through on their commitments.

China, Germany and the United States must all acknowledge that, even if Kim is a dictator, the 35-year-old is not insane.

In Japan, the prospect of canceled U.S. Trump's effective acceptance of a divided Korea therefore must be pleasing Xi almost as much as it reassures Kim. US defense analysts have said Kim retains as many as 60 nuclear bombs and a range of missiles, including some he says can strike the U.S.

On the eve of the summit, Pompeo emphasized that sanctions would remain until North Korea delivered "CVID", and acronym for complete, verifiable, irreversible denuclearization.

"We envision strong, secure and prosperous North Korea that is fully integrated into the community of nations". -South Korean exercises appeared off-limits under the new guidance. The next military exercise is scheduled for August, and in years past, has drawn thousands of troops from the U.S., South Korea and other countries.

"President Trump appreciated that an atmosphere of peace and stability was created on the Korean Peninsula and in the region, although distressed with the extreme danger of armed clash only a few months ago, thanks to the proactive peace-loving measures taken by the respected Supreme Leader from the outset of this year", the North's state-run Korean Central News Agency said in a summary of the meeting.
