Real Madrid have confirmed Spain boss Julen Lopetegui as their new manager.

"Real Madrid CF announces that Julen Lopetegui will coach the first team for the next three seasons".

Spain national team manager Julen Lopetegui is headed to the Bernabeu.

"I've got my feet up and am feeling good", Zidane told AFP at the inauguration of a playground in Saint Denis, the north Parisian suburb that is home to the Stade de France where he starred for the French team that won the 1998 World Cup.

His name had been briefly mentioned among many others as a possible successor to Zidane, who stepped down on May 31 after leading the club to a third straight Champions League crown, although a move seemed highly unlikely.

He succeeds the Zinedine Zidane who retired after winning an unprecedented three successive Champions League for the club.

Lopetegui is in Russian Federation with the Spain squad, where he will oversee their challenge but will then leave his post with the national team and take over at the Santiago Bernabeu, per Marca. They also scored 36 goals, and their form means they are one of the favourites ahead of the tournament in Russian Federation.

His decision to quit as Madrid coach suddenly left the Spanish giants in limbo.

Lopetegui's playing career included a spell at Real, although he made just one appearance and was mainly loaned out to Las Palmas.

The 51-year-old took up his current job two years ago and is yet to lose a game, clocking up 14 wins and six draws from his 20 matches in the helm of La Roja.
