Engineering work for supporting the cryptocurrency will now begin, Coinbase said in a blog post. "We are announcing this both internally and to the public consistent with our process for adding new assets".

Coinbase Markets - the Markets team is planning to add trading support for Ethereum Classic. As it stands though, we have no specific timeline for these additions, instead, Coinbase will be concentrating on Ethereum Classic as a lone project for the time being. Support for Ethereum was added on Coinbase after the hard fork and only exchange users with Ethereum balances were eligible for ETC withdrawals.

This is no doubt the start of a far bigger project for Coinbase, who have also recently confirmed that they are going to add support for Ethereum ERC-20 Tokens and will also start to list other Bitcoin Forks, this would include currencies such as Bitcoin Private, Bitcoin Diamond and Bitcoin Gold. If sufficient liquidity is established, trading will then be enabled on Pro and Prime.

"This will undoubtedly bring a new level of visibility to Ethereum Classic, which is a decentralized smart contract platform similar to Ethereum". It's also worth repeating that Coinbase Markets, Coinbase Pro and Coinbase Prime will likely have more assets listed on the platform than the Coinbase platform, i.e. listing on Coinbase Markets does not guarantee listing on Coinbase. Ethereum Classic is the original Ethereum, as ETH forked off of the Ethereum chain in June 2016 after the DAO hack. It is now the 18th most valuable digital currency and its market cap of approximately $1.5 billion is dwarfed by that of Ethereum ($53.3 billion) and of Bitcoin ($117.8 billion). After the catapult gain, ETC is now trading at $15.59 with a market cap of $1.59 billion.

"Ethereum Classic is a cryptocurrency that was the result of a hard fork of the Ethereum network in July 2016" is correct, but written in a way that will confuse people into thinking ETC is a fork."
Ranking at the 16th position, BNB is now trading at $16.03 with a market cap of $1.82 billion.
