PlayStation also revealed during its E3 showcase that Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is available to PlayStation Plus subscribers as of tonight, which is just lovely.

For many Call of Duty: Black Ops fans, the next installment of the long-running first-person shooter franchise has a lot to offer, but for those who pick up the game's season pass, it appears there will be even more. The Back in Black maps will include Jungle, Summit, Slums, and Firing Range. Whether you're a veteran of the series or a newcomer, there's more than enough content to warrant checking out Black Ops 3. In addition to this, a host of remastered maps are coming to Black Ops 3 and Black Ops 4.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III was originally out in 2015 on PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4.

At present, Activision is encouraging players to grab the Digital Deluxe Edition, the Digital Deluxe Enhanced Edition, or the Pro Edition to get their hands on the pass (each edition also comes with extra goodies). The Black Ops Pass will be available standalone at a later date, but to get it on day one and reap the immediate benefits, you gotta upgrade. With Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 out later this year, it's a smart way for Sony and Activision to rope prospective consumers into the Black Ops universe. Instead of four separate content downloads, expect more robust and more frequent availability of maps and other content.

Yet when this confusion came to light, the Activision Support FAQ quickly changed its tune.

A: If you pre-ordered the physical base version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, return to your retailer to upgrade your pre-order to an edition that includes Black Ops Pass.
