Avengers: Infinity War joins the $2 billion club

All of those films were released over the winter holidays. Domestically, Avengers: Infinity War is the fifth-highest grossing film of all time, with $656.1 million.

While all the MCU films have had post-credits scenes that teased upcoming installments in an ever-expanding cinematic universe, Infinity War was the first film to end on a straight-up cliffhanger. It also holds the record for biggest domestic debut, raking in $257.7 million during its opening weekend.

"Infinity War", which was released in April, needed just 48 days to achieve the feat.

Additionally, Infinity War is already the fifth-highest grossing film in domestic box office record, now sitting at $655.1 million, inevitably set to overtake Black Panther ($699.4M) and Titanic ($659.3M), and likely set to finish just behind The Force Awakens ($936.6M) and Avatar ($760.5M).

Avengers: Infinity War has officially crossed the $2 billion mark worldwide. The movie opened to an impressive $199.3 million in China two weeks after its global debut and went on to become the third-biggest release ever in the country, with $369.7 million to date. Indeed, Infinity War placed at 5 last weekend, having added $7.2 million to its total, even besting the debuting Hotel Artemis, which came in at a disappointing 8.

He may not be the most powerful hero, but Iron Man is clearly the heart of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Over its span of a decade, Marvel brought together nearly every superhero in its comics world onto the celluloid, to ultimately fight against the supervillain Thanos in the Infinity War.

Actor Josh Brolin played the supervillain, Thanos. Avengers 4, which will pick up after the universe-altering effects from Infinity War, is set to hit theaters May 3, 2019.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the third Avengers film, and the 19th film in the MCU, eked passed the $2 billion mark on Monday.
