Palestinians recall ambassadors from 4 European Union states over US Embassy celebration

"The recalls are to consult with our Ambassadors to these states about their positions and their commitment to the EU's positions", said the PA's Foreign Ministry.

The ministry said on Wednesday that those European Union nations had participated in an official Israeli celebration marking the US Embassy's move to Jerusalem.

This comes two-days after the United States (US) inaugurated its embassy in Jerusalem.

While Jean-Yves Le Drian, France's Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, said the decision to move the embassies to Jerusalem "violated global law and in particular UN Security Council resolutions".

Israel's passage in June 1980 of a law proclaiming Jerusalem its "indivisible and eternal capital" led to a UN Security Council resolution calling on Guatemala and several other countries to move their embassies to Tel Aviv.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday withdrew his top envoy to Washington. Paraguay said it will move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem by the end of May.

Since Monday, Israeli occupation forces have killed 65 Palestinians who were protesting against the embassy move in the besieged Gaza Strip and injured thousands more in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. In Geneva, the United Nations human rights office said Israel has repeatedly violated global norms by using deadly live fire to repel protesters.

Jerusalem's status is perhaps the thorniest issue in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

He said that peace-loving nations should support the two-state solution agreed upon by the global community, which requires the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. It sees the entire city as its capital.
