According to a report from CNBC on Wednesday, Apple is vetting the Tar Heel State as a site for a new campus in the state's Research Triangle region that will house technical support staff at first, and possibly expand with other operations.

Both Apple CEO, Tim Cook, and Senior VP of Internet Software and Services, Eddy Cue, are alumni of Duke University, where Cook delivered a commencement speech over the weekend.

Apple has looked at land around Interstate 540, according to Triangle Business Journal.

Another area that Apple is looking into is Research Triangle Park in North Carolina.

Cooper's office neither confirmed nor denied the report to Business Insider.

As Fortune notes, Apple's method for trying to find a location for its second campus is markedly different from Amazon's approach to finding the next spot for another headquarters.

Apple has its eye on two east coast states as it decides where to build its newest campus.

Griezmann has one final job at Atleti after landing Europa League
Asked about Griezmann's future, Atletico head coach Diego Simeone said: "It's a decision that he will have to come to". The truth is this was a dream for me, to win a trophy with Atletico, with [Diego Simeone] and my friends and teammates.

"We're narrowing the site selection for a new USA campus, and we look forward to sharing more information on that later this year", Cook said during Apple's call with investors on April 29. This increase in Apple's employee headcount would go a long way towards fulfilling the company's goal of investing $30 billion in the USA and creating upwards of 20,000 new jobs over the next five years.

Total investment by Apple in the state of NC for the new campus is estimated to be between $1.5 to $2 billion dollars upon completion.

Apple didn't immediately return a request for comment.

Apple is quietly exploring the possibility of creating an headquarters in Northern Virginia that would hold 20,000 employees, according to the Washington Post. Officials from the state reportedly pitched locations in Arlington, Fairfax, and Loudoun counties to Apple people.

"We're narrowing the site selection for a new USA campus, and we look forward to sharing more information on that later this year", Cook said on April 29.

The thought of Apple setting up a new, large shop all the way across the country from its Cupertino headquarters is not so far-fetched an idea.
