Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Maken Friday said that the Aam Aadmi Party Government in Delhi has compromised the security of the nation for kickbacks in the installation of CCTV cameras in Delhi by awarding the contract to Chinese Government PSU Hikvision, having 58 per cent share of the Chinese Government, through BEL (Bharat Electronics Ltd) by making it a vendor of BEL.

As the issue snowballed into yet another confrontation between the AAP government and the Lieutenant Governor, Kejriwal had yesterday also sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention in the execution of the CCTV project saying it was related to women safety and should be above politics.

As per terms and reference of the panel which has to submit its report to the L-G within one month, its members will recommend norms regarding storage, monitoring, access and sharing of CCTV footage with the government authorities, keeping in view the privacy and security concerns including erasure/final disposal of recorded footage, evidentiary value of images among others. He said once the CCTV cameras are installed across the city, the Chinese government will be able to track the movement of all the VIPs and defence establishments in the city.
