Habitat for Humanity's Women Build to construct more South Apopka homes

In May for the past 11 years, Lowe's has partnered with Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity to rebuild houses.

National Women Build Week encourages women nationwide to devote at least one day to help build decent and affordable housing in their communities to help give every family a shot at having a safe place to rest their heads.

"When women come together it changes things because you don' expect women to do any building - landscaping, yes, but we got brick movers over here and that makes it great", Elliott said.

Sine 2003 the home improvement company has committed more than $63 million to Habitat which helped almost 6,500 families improve their living conditions.

Learning basic home fix skills is just one of the many goals of this week's event.

Habitat for Humanity of the St. Vrain Valley will gather more than seventy-five volunteers to help build homes in the St. Vrain Valley.

Habitat Executive Director Amy Schutz says, "Sometimes people don't want a brand new home, they're willing to take a refurbished home and we take them and put them into a like new state".

Volunteers interested in joining National Women Build Week are asked to check in with their local Habitat for humanity offices on events, build clinics and other community engagements to support this initiative.
