DirecTV Now officially released Tuesday the much-anticipated update to its streaming service for Apple TV users with 20 hours of cloud DVR capability and an expected re-designed of its look and feel.

The cloud DVR is initially available in beta with up to 20 hours free recording while the company tests the new service.

According to Stephenson, subscriber acquisition costs will be one-fourth that of what it is witnessing right now with DirecTV satellite service. However, it will cost extra: a third stream will be an additional $5 per month on top of the price of a customer's DirecTV Now package. This summer the company plans to launch a commercial service for up to 100 hours to keep up to 90 days, for Dollars 10 per month.

It should be no surprise that AT&T is charging for the additional stream, and the expanded DVR capability.

DIRECTV NOW will be launching more DVR options later this summer including the ability to record up to 100 hours and keep the programs stored for up to 90 days for $10 per month. "New episodes on select channels will be available on-demand after airing, so you don't have to worry about setting up a recording prior", the DirecTV Now statement continued.

DIRECTV Now subscribers previously could only watch local channels while at home. If he travels to New York, he could watch the NBC affiliate in NY. The new DirecTV Now interface puts users' most-watched channels and favorite programs at the center of the app, whereas those were accessible through separate menus.
