"If BJP considers it correct to form a government in Karnataka by virtue of being the single largest party in the state, it should consider its decision wrong not to give an opportunity to RJD to form next government in Bihar following resignation of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar a year ago as it was the single largest party in the state", Mr Yadav, also leader of opposition in Bihar Assembly argued.

Meanwhile, former deputy chief minister of Bihar and leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav also said that he will meet the Governor.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader said that if the Bharatiya Janata Party was invited by the Karnataka Governor to form the government on grounds that it was the single largest party, then then RJD also had the right to form the government.

Congress is now likely to stake claim to form the government in the state of Goa.

Hours after BS Yeddyurappa was sworn in by Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala on the basis of the BJP being the single largest party in the state, in neighbouring Goa, Congress jumped to apply the same logic.

Goa Congress chief Girish Chodankar claimed the party wanted to give the governor "an opportunity to rectify the mistake which she did last year".

Soon after, in an apparent show of unity against the events unfolding in Karnataka, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav followed suit, asking governor Satya Pal Malik to dissolve the Bihar assembly and invite RJD on account of it being the single-largest party in the state. But the JDU allied with the BJP (53 seats) to form government. Three Independents also went with the BJP. The BJP however countered that by stating that the Congress in Goa never staked a claim.

Though the RJD-JD (U) "mahagathbandhan" won the 2015 Assembly elections in Bihar, the alliance broke in 2017 with Nitish Kumar's JD (U) aligning with the BJP to form the government. "[Party President] Amit Shah has only one formula - horse trading, or using central agencies against MLAs of other parties", Yadav said.

He was referring to the decision of Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala to invite the BJP to form the government after the Assembly election results declared on 15 May.

"We would be holding a 1-day dharna tomorrow against the murder of democracy in Karnataka".

In Meghalaya, Congress was the largest party with 21 seats, followed by National People's Party (NPP) with 19 seats in the assembly polls held in 2017.

Addressing press conference, Yadav said that they will demand the dissolution of current government and they be invited to form the government.

All India Congress Committee General Secy Ashok Gehlot on Thursday issued a letter requesting all Pradesh Congress Committees, leaders and workers to organise state-wide dharnas at state capitals and district HQs tomorrow to protest against K'taka Governor for inviting BS Yeddyurappa.

The RJD fought the elections in alliance with Janata Dal (United) or JD (U) and the Congress, emerging as the single largest party.

A combine of the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) too had staked its claim for forming a government by citing the support of 117 MLAs.

But can the Congress and the RJD topple the governments in Goa and Bihar with their latest move? The party's state president HD Kumaraswamy attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government for "demolishing" the democracy.
