Unnao gangrape accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar detained by CBI for questioning

Yesterday, Sangeeta Sengar, wife of Kuldeep Sengar, met Uttar Pradesh's Director General of Police OP Singh in Lucknow and handed over a letter to him demanding a Narco test for her husband and the Unnao rape victim.

June 11, 2017: After the alleged rape, the girl went missing.

Upto six police personnel were suspended for allegedly beating up the victim's father, who died on April 9.

The Allahabad High Court is all set to pronounce its order in the Unnao rape case on Friday.

The minor girl had alleged that she was raped by Kuldeep Singh Sengar, the BJP legislator from Unnao, and his brother a year ago, but the police refused to take any action against them. The court was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking its intervention in the case. Shashi Singh, who was accused of reaching thevictim to the legislator was also named in the FIR lodged on the complaint of the victim's mother.

The rape survivor had attempted self immolation at Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's house on last Sunday seeking his intervention to get the MLA and his accomplices arrested for rape and assaulting her father brutally following which he died on Monday.

Meanwhile, the case took a political turn when the Opposition started taking jibes at Adityanath's government over safety of women in his state.

In a statement, Mayawati also took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah for observing a fast over the stalemate in Parliament, saying they should instead hold a "upvas (fast) of repentence" on the ghats of Varanasi against the "misdeeds" of their party MLA. "We...are handing over the probe to the CBI for further action".

The BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Bengar has been charged under the stringent POCSO Act and sections of the Indian Penal Code or IPC dealing with rape.

All this week, Kuldeep Singh Sengar has moving freely denying the accusation, disparaging the girl and her family and hitting out at the media.

Sengar was asked to join the investigation when he was about to leave for Varanasi.
