Rare has issued a roadmap detailing its upcoming plans for Sea of Thieves on Xbox One and PC.

Rare announced its Sea of Thieves content plans today, and the studio is making a commitment to regular updates that will introduce significant changes.

Content updates will add major new features alongside new items & mechanics, with new goals and rewards.

The pirate life doesn't end in May, but kicks off one of three content updates with the rest to follow this summer.

The next big addition to Sea of Thieves is a content update called The Hungering Deep. The former will introduce a new ship type, the latter will introduce a new part of the world with new AI threats unique to that area of the world.

"We've been listening closely to our community, and we know how keen they are to hear how we plan to grow Sea of Thieves", said Sea of Thieves executive producer Joe Neate. Crew size isn't revealed, but my guess is that it will be a new ship for three-man crews as opposed to having an even larger ship for more players. Both of these update will also include new gameplay mechanics, new AI threats to challenge, and unique rewards to claim.

The game has been out for a few weeks now, and based on the feedback I've been hearing, Sea of Thieves has been just a little bit light on stuff to actually do. Players will have a timed event with a goal where they will have to work with other crews to discover the new threat. Those events will introduce new mechanics, new ways to play with things like new hidden treasures, trading companies, and other things that enhance the world.

This summer will see the debut of Cursed Sails, which will include a new ship type, and Forsaken Shores, which will introduce players to a new perilous part of the world to explore. The water looks incredible, sailing is fun, but outside of those two things many have found the game to be lacking.

All of the aforementioned content will be available to Sea of Thieves players at no additional cost.
