Manchester City have won their first Premier League title under Pep Guardiola after second placed Manchester United suffered a 1-0 defeat to bottom of the table West Brom this afternoon. They can surpass Chelsea's Premier League record of 30 (2016-17) by winning three of their remaining five fixtures.

He would have been as surprised as everyone else that the title, seemingly a foregone conclusion for months, was rubber-stamped in such unusual circumstances.

Juan Mata has challenged Manchester United to follow up their 3-2 win over Manchester City with a victory over West Brom on Sunday. They are now 20th in the Premier League, 12 points behind Swansea City who are 17th.

United, fresh off a win in the Manchester derby, will be looking to keep the momentum going despite the fact they have little to play for at this stage of the season.

This season was a very different one for City, who have been absolutely dominant for the most part, with Guardiola finally showing his worth and playing some of the best football seen in Premier League history. "Probably because I won eight championships, I was not in the moon with the victory against them because that doesn't make me feel super happy".

Guardiola failed last season but in his second term he has added the correct players to his squad, the signing of Kyle Walker has been a huge plus, and he has also got huge amounts out of Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling, amongst many others.

City subsequently join the United team of 2000/01 in becoming the only Premier League club to win the title with five matches remaining.

And then West Brom, the worst team in the league, went and scored.

There were a few half chances here and there, but West Brom smiled home as winners on the day, but Manchester City would surely be the biggest beneficiaries.

An impressive performance on Saturday saw City condemn Spurs to a first Premier League loss since the teams last met, at the Etihad back in December. Wins over West Ham and Southampton would give them 50, and have Pep's men holding yet another record.
