South Indian actress Jayanthi's family denies death rumours

Reports of veteran Kannada actress Jayanthi passing away late Tuesday night, after a long battle with chronic asthma, have been refuted by her family. However, this was the first time she had had to be hospitalized over to breathing issues.

Following the viral reports on Jayanthi's supposed death, many politicians, celebrities fell for the confusion and consequentially took to social media and expressed their grief and condolences. He also added, she is responding to medication. "Some TV channels reported that she was dead, which is untrue, as they were confused regarding her health", he told the website. Yesterday, she did not have consciousness.

Jayanthi's son Krishna Kumar even told IBTimes, "She has been suffering from asthma for 35 years. She is in the ICU under strict observation", says Kumar on 28 March.

Jayanthi is one of the most renowned actresses of the South Indian film industry. Jayanthi's family also reportedly claimed that although her condition was critical, she was in fact "recovering". Jayanthi has been awarded two Karnataka State Film Awards for Best Actress, the President's Medal for Best Actress and two Filmfare Awards for Best Actress throughout her career. She made her debut with Kannada film, Jeenu Goodu. Jayanthi is known for a lot of Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, and Marathi language films. She has acted in over 500 movies along with legends like MG Ramachandran (MGR), Dr Rajkumar etc.
