(G.N.S) Dt. 14 Gandhinagar The Gujarat Assembly witnessed a ruckus on Wednesday as the members of the ruling BJP and Opposition Congress came to blows.

Congress MLA Pratap Dudhat, who allegedly hit BJP member Jagdish Panchal with the microphone, and his colleague Amrish Der, who disobeyed speaker Rajendra Trivedi's orders, have been suspended for three years.

The Speaker, while pronouncing his order, severely reprimanded the legislators, calling their act goondaism and said that he wanted to set a precedent so that no other legislator in the future would dare commit such a crime. "I was of the view of suspending the errant legislators for five years but the ruling party appears to be soft and has sought only three years' suspension", Trivedi said.

The ruckus erupted during discussion over tabling the report of Justice D.K. Trivedi Commission in the Asaram Bapu case pertaining to the unnatural death of two children studying in the ashram in 2008. Both the children were from Madam's constituency. "Misdoings of Congress MLAs Vikram Madam, Pratap Dudhat and Amrish Der have been recorded by the CCTV cameras in the House and we are going to request the Speaker to make it accessible to the media". Der even questioned the Speaker's intent.

Later, Mr. Der attacked BJP MLAs.

As both Congress and BJP members started shouting, Dudhat rushed to the front while exchanging heated words with BJP MLA Jagdish Panchal. "Today, the legislator used foul language with reference to my mother and I could not tolerate it".

Congress Deputy Leader in the House Shailesh Parmar said, "I am not trying to save Pratapbhai Dudhat".

Panchal denied the charge.

Congress legislator Baldev Thakor was suspended for a year for allegedly disrupting the proceedings in the House. The speaker adjourned the house for ten minutes, named Dudhat for five years term suspension and left but the effect did not stop there. It was passed by a majority vote, following which Congress members staged a walkout.

"This was part of the BJP's conspiracy to get the entire Opposition suspended just before the Rajya Sabha elections (on March 23)".
