President Trump's personal assistant, John McEntee, was sacked Monday, because he is now under investigation by the Department of Homeland Security for financial crimes, CBS News' Jacqueline Alemany confirmed Tuesday.

What is it with these people and alleged links to "serious financial crimes"? He was escorted off the White House grounds before he was allowed to collect his belongings, even leaving without his jacket, the Journal reported. WSJ wrote that the aide "indicated to colleagues that it was an issue in his background".

News of McEntee's departure, first reported by The Wall Street Journal, came shortly after Trump tweeted that he would be replacing Secretary of State Rex Tillerson with CIA Director Mike Pompeo. On Tuesday morning, the Trump reelection campaign announced that McEntee had just been hired as a senior adviser for campaign operations. Trump's top economic adviser Gary Cohn left recently amid internal debate over Trump's plans for tariffs. He will join the Trump campaign instead.

An official told WSJ that his firing is "not going to be great for morale". "He made sure Mr. Trump had markers to sign autographs, delivered messages to him in the White House residence and, over the weekend, ensured that the clocks in the White House residence were adjusted for daylight-saving time".

"We need the help of proven leaders such as Katrina and John to promote the President's growing portfolio of achievements across the country, " campaign manager Brad Parscale said in a statement.
