Nagasu finished with a 137.53 overall score, which was second-best of the ladies free skate, giving the United States nine points in the team competition.
American Kimmie Meissner also landed a triple axel at the 2005 U.S. Nationals, but Harding and Nagasu remain two of just seven women ever to land the jump at global competition. The husband-and-wife pairs team of Alexa Scimeca-Knierim and Chris Knierim placed fourth in their free skate on Sunday. The skate was part of the figure skating team event.
"To nail that triple axel, I tripped a couple of times going into it because I was so nervous, but to tell myself no I'm going to go for it 100 percent and not pull back that was, that was really special for me", Nagasu said after her performance.
Just like Friday's men's short program, the men's free skate was anything but memorable.
JB Hi-Fi whiteware exit hurts 1H earnings
The company now expects its full-year profit to be in the $235-$240 million range - beating its $172 million result last year. The company's 15 New Zealand stores are a small part to the Australian group's 311 JB Hi-Fi and Good Guys retail outlets.
Bradie Tennell performs in the women's short program. They're scored as they normally are in competition, but an athlete's placement earns points for his or her country. His artistry boosted his mark significantly, and, frankly, the four other competitors are not his main competition in the individual event later this week.
In the men's free skate portion, Adam Rippon needed to hold off Italy to put a stranglehold on bronze and Rippon got the job done. His clean program was good for third, extending the American's lead over Italy to two points.
"I worked so hard for this moment", said Rippon, who was added to the team by the US committee in January ahead of Ross Miner. "To do it for them who have supported me and watched me and been on this long road that's been up and down, that feels incredible".
