Sorensen is the second White House official to resign over domestic abuse allegations in days-with staff secretary Rob Porter resigning Wednesday after being accused of physically abusing two of his ex wives.

She said the same thing on CNN's State of the Union with Jake Tapper. "I spoke with the president last night about this very issue, and he wanted me to reemphasize to everyone, including this morning, that he has full confidence in his current Chief of Staff General John Kelly, and that he is not actively searching for replacements", Conway said.

"I found out about it recently and I was surprised by it", Trump said.

Kelly reportedly offered his resignation over the matter, amid allegations he knew about Porter's problems but allowed him to keep his White House post - without full Federal Bureau of Investigation security clearance.

The reports of abuse have shaken up an already tumultuous administration, as reports now indicate that Chief of Staff John Kelly has discussed his willingness to resign due to his handling of the Porter matter.

Attorneys who specialize in security clearance said Porter should have disclosed the allegations, including the protective order granted to one woman, when he filed his lengthy national security application.

Kelly told reporters the only other indication he had that something could be wrong came in November, when he got an update on pending background investigations and learned "there was some things that needed to be looked into".

"I have no reason not to believe the women", Conway added.

Both of Porter's ex-wives have detailed the nature of the abuse they said they suffered at Porter's hands and said they informed the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Conway pointed out that Trump didn't mention the #MeToo movement or Porter's name in the tweet, and said he was referring to allegations in general.

Hicks, 29, has been able to keep a quiet role while advising the president, but in recent weeks, she's been questioned by special counsel Robert Mueller's office in its investigation over whether Trump tried to obstruct the ongoing investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, reports The Washington Post.

The President himself has also been the subject of allegations of sexual harassment by several women.

President Trump bashes the cultural climate which is quick to judge and punish those accused of crimes, without receiving due process for their alleged actions.

Kelly, who according to reports, learned of the allegations against Porter months ago when he failed to pass an Federal Bureau of Investigation background check for a security clearance, lauded him as "a man of true integrity and honor" on Tuesday. "He said very strongly yesterday that he's innocent, so you'll have to talk to him about that".

Mulvaney also dismissed the suggestion that Trump has spoken to him about taking over as chief of staff, and said speculation about Kelly's status is being fed by people unhappy that they lost access to Trump when Kelly took over from Reince Priebus.

Trump has long resisted Kelly's attempt to control him. "However, White House spokesman Hogan Gidley said Friday that Kelly ".

Conway said in her appearances that Trump wasn't considering replacements for Kelly, and that his job was safe.
