CRPF constable killed in ongoing Karan Nagar gun fight

The police official said that the residents in the vicinity have been evacuated to safety.

Troops of the CRPF and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police were carrying out the operation against the militants.

An alert sentry at a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp here in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday averted a possible militant attack by firing at approaching militants forcing them to flee. "Fortunately two terrorists are in cordon & exchange of fire going on".

"In the wee hours, a sentry of 23 battalion stationed at Karanagar noticed a suspicious movement".

Earlier on Saturday, terrorists barged in the Sunjwan army camp in Jammu, killing five security personnel and one civilian. According to news agency ANI, a CRPF personnel, who was seriously injured in the gunfight during the ongoing encounter at the CRPF camp in Srinagar's Karan Nagar, succumbed to his injuries.

Police sources said there were an exchange for fire between the militants and security forces.
