Downtown institution Tony's is a semifinalist for "Outstanding Service", another nationwide category. Ashley Christensen of Poole's Diner in Raleigh is up for the national award Outstanding Chef and David Bauer of Farm & Sparrow in Asheville is on the list for Outstanding Baker. Chosen from a list of more than 20,000 online entries, the semifinalists in 21 categories represent culinary talent in 10 regions in the U.S. Florida belongs in the Best Chef South category, which includes Alabama, Arkansas, Puerto Rico, Louisiana and Mississippi. According to the Foundation, awards are given in more than 50 categories, including Restaurant and Chef, Restaurant Design, and Bar and Wine Program. The finalists will be revealed at on March 14, with the winners being announced on May 7 at the James Beard Awards Gala. Curiously, Cerulean closed in December after five years at The Alexander Hotel.
