Amazon is working to bring its Alexa digital assistant out of the home and into the wild by way of a partnership with Toyota that will see the smart home gadget incorporated under the bonnet of future vehicles. Google sold more than 6 million Google Home devices in the 2017 holiday season, Business Insider reported.
The Assistant is Google's digital helper, which is at the heart of all of its products. This would be a direct challenge to Amazon.
This year's CES is opening on Tuesday in Las Vegas. Amazon's Echo, the first smart speaker on the market, was introduced in November 2014. ADR (NYSE:TM) will start offering Alexa in its cars. The technology was packed into a variety of smart home products, ranging from speakers and radios through to lamps and vacuum ... Google also announced a new platform that will see companies including Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) release Google Assistant speakers with built-in displays - a product clearly created to take on the Amazon Echo Show.
For the moment, voice competitors to Amazon and Google remain largely in the wings.

But these smart products can - and sometimes do - support multiple assistants.
Google profit - and GOOGL stock - has always been highly reliant on ad revenue. Google's Assistant can be summoned on Android smartphones, and Siri lives on Apple's iPhones. Google is now lagging behind Amazon in market share but is quickly catching up.
And Amazon is having considerable success in leveraging that position to get Alexa into third party products. The Bloomberg article also points out that when it comes to any service that involves buying something, companies turn to Alexa.
Looking ahead, Google says that the Google Assistant will be coming to smart displays that are powered by Android Things. Companies starting with, and, all are preparing to integrate the Alexa voice assistant on their new notebooks and desktops. And be bad news for GOOGL stock.
The market is still growing fast, with smart speakers among the top-selling devices at Amazon. But that's precisely what Google is doing at CES 2018.
Bloomberg's sources claim that Google's renewed emphasis on hardware - in this case with the redesigned store - is part of an ongoing effort to fend off Amazon as it's the e-commerce colossus Google is apparently most afraid of.
