'The Handmaid's Tale': Hulu Debuts First Look at Season 2

E! News spoke with Emmy victor Ann Dowd, Aunt Lydia on the series, after she received her first Golden Globe nomination ever, and she dropped some nuggets of information about the second season.

The website revealed three brand new stills from the series' second season on Friday (January 12)- including a striking image of a bloodied up Offred (Elisabeth Moss). She only dons a white tank-top while staring blankly at a distance. They wear black long dresses and hats while covering their faces and arms with red fabrics. She certainly doesn't look injured, leaving fans to wonder whose blood that is. Several shelters can be seen at the distance. Then again, maybe she finally snapped and let loose on somebody, which would be totally understandable after her experiences in Season 1. He continues, "These scenes that are so lovely, while set in such a bad place, provide the kind of contrast that makes me happy".

"'Gilead is within you' is a favorite saying of [antagonist] Aunt Lydia", according to Hulu. "Instead, you just have to keep in mind to try and tell a good story". Sometimes while writing the scripts, I just really wanted to surprise her. "Plus you see the worlds that you weren't exposed to before: the Colonies, what that whole world is; those who make it to Canada, what happens there; the pregnancy, how that is coming along".

The Handmaid's Tale season two premieres on Hulu this April.

Based on first look pictures from the second season Offred has taken off her handmaid's attire and might actually be living free. But it's not yet clear if she's on her way to severe punishment or to a new life.
