The Patriots will reportedly be shorthanded at running back for their divisional-round playoff matchup against the Tennessee Titans Saturday night.

Burkhead was expected to sit and, in confirming that expectation, he'll be out for a third straight game dating back to Week 16.

Burkhead, who originally injured his knee during the Patriots' win over the Pittsburgh Steelers back on December 17, practiced in a limited capacity on Thursday and was hoping to play this weekend.

However, there is some good news for the Patriots.

The 27-year-old carried the ball 64 times for 264 yards and five touchdowns this season. Burkhead was trending towards playing after getting in limited practices this week but will likely miss the Divisional round against the Titans.

The Titans have seven players on their inactive list for Saturday's game, including running back DeMarco Murray, who was ruled out for Saturday's contest two days ago because of a knee injury.

Last year, Burkhead rushed for 344 yards and two touchdowns while catching 17 passes for 145 yards.

The game should feature a big game from Dion Lewis and James White. Prior to that game, he had missed six games - five as a healthy scratch and one because of illness.
