Man kills mother after video game tantrum

Matthew Nicholson, 28, was playing video games in the bedroom of his Ceres, Calif., home on Wednesday night when an argument broke out with his mother Lydia Nicholson.

"My mom was a wonderful person, and loved her children", Autumn Nicholson said.

Lydia Nicholson was 68 years old at the time, survived by his father and her husband; 81 year old Loren Nicholson. Officers found the vehicle there, conducted a high-risk traffic stop and took Nicholson into custody.

28 year old Matthew Nicholson is now in custody after allegedly shooting, and killing, his mother over a broken gaming headset following a heated argument that led to he himself breaking it.

Matthew Nicholson's father wrestled the gun away from his son, who then fled the scene in a vehicle and went to a relative's home in Riverbank. "He came out yelling something about, 'My headset is broken, '" police spokesman Greg Yotsuya told NBC affiliate KCRA. A family member told Fox 40, "I understand that he would've killed the father too, but the gun dammed".

Around 9:50 p.m. Thursday, authorities responded to a home on River Valley Circle in Ceres for reports of a victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. "The father grabbed the gun, emptied it". Officers spotted the auto and arrested Nicholson without incident.

Matthew Nicholson, 28, was arrested after police say he shot his mother to death after he began yelling during a video game. "Speechless", said Ron Kutzman, a neighbor of the Nicholson family. Paramedics followed and took Lydia Nicholson to a hospital, where she would soon die. "You've earned your wings, fly and be free", she added.
