Starz President & CEO Chris Albrecht announced today at the Television Critics Association (TCA) Winter 2018 Press Tour that Starz and Lionsgate are developing a television series adaptation of the highly successful Lionsgate film franchise John Wick.
It's a ideal fit for Starz which, among its original programming line up, offers hits like Outlander and Black Sails and the upcoming spy series Counterpoint. After the launch of John Wick Chapter 2, it was speculated that there might be a television series that would go deeper into the world of John Wick, but now we have confirmation. It's very tied to the film [in that] it's about the Continentals all over the world, how certain people come into that world, and what happens in relation to those people, which is cool.
The news comes fresh out of the TCAs on Friday, which indicates a very healthy and synergetic relationship between Lionsgate and Starz.
John Wick star Keanu Reeves serves as an executive producer on the potential series.
Stone pelted on Bihar CM Nitish Kumar's convoy
Police said the incident took place when Nitish was returning from Nandar village of Buxar. However, the chief minister's cavalcade moved ahead without paying heed to their demand.
"This is an opportunity to really engage in the phenomenal fan base that has risen up around the John Wick franchises", Albrecht said. The Continental will explore the inner workings of the Continental hotel.
"This series is truly unlike anything else on TV".
The Continental is being written by Chris Collins who serves as showrunner. "[It's] one of those great social media phenomenal fan bases that just help have a voice in recommending shows to peers". The film franchise's team will executive produce, (think Reeves, Basil Iwanyk, Chad Stahelski, Derek Kostad, David Leitch).
We've been hearing about a potential John Wick spin-off series ever since I interviewed Chapter 2 director Chad Stahelski this time a year ago.
