Xiaomi Redmi 5A Lands in Malaysia for RM399

Touted as "Desh ka smartphone" by Chinese company Xiaomi, the Redmi 5A is now available for purchase. The company officially joins the bezel-less display bandwagon before the year ends.

So, without much rummaging, let's take a look at what's new in Xiaomi Redmi 5 over Redmi 4. The smartphone is available in two variants, 2GB+16GB which is priced at Rs 5,999 and 3GB+32GB variant which is priced at Rs 6,999. The Redmi 5 Plus sports a larger 5.99-inch Full HD+ (1080x2160) display. Following the smartphone market trend for bezel-less edge-to-edge display, Xiaomi too have got a 5.7-inch HD+ 18:9 full-screen display in Redmi 5 and a 5.99-inch FHD+ 18:9 full-screen display in Redmi 5 Plus smartphone.

The Redmi 5 is available in 2GB and 3GB RAM variants. Grievously, neither of the handsets offer any kind of screen protection. Xiaomi has embedded Adreno 506 graphics processor. While the storage capacity of the Redmi 5 measures 16GB and32GB, the Plus model will have 32GB and 64GB storage. As a comparison, the previous Redmi 4A was announced at RM449. The smartphone has an Android 7.1 Nougat based on MIUI 9 skin out-of-the-box.

The highlight of the Redmi 5A is its 3000mAh battery, which is claimed to offer a standby time of 8 days. Redmi 5A is powered by a Quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor and it comes with support for expandable storage up to 128GB via a microSD card slot. It offers a 13 MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture coupled with an LED flash.
