Orlando Magic center Nikola Vucevic broke a bone in his left index finger against the Washington Wizards and will be out indefinitely.

The injury occurred in the first quarter when Washington forward Otto Porter swiped at the ball and instead struck Vucevic's hand.

Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania reported he "is expected to undergo surgery" and will "be sidelined 6-to-8 weeks".

However, Biyombo does represent a defensive upgrade at the 5, which means the Magic could still tout an intimidating one-two frontcourt punch if Aaron Gordon (calf) returns to the lineup over the next few games.

He led IL with 22 points off the bench, making 10 of 11 free throw attempts. "Trent was huge", IL coach Brad Underwood said. But for one reason or another, haven't been able to get the job done in finishing games that have come down to the wire.

Vucevic is quietly having another good National Basketball Association season for Orlando, but he will have to put his year on pause after suffering a hand injury on Saturday.

After a strong start to the season, the Orlando Magic have been a disaster in the past six weeks, winning just three of their past 21 games.

Vucevic is averaging 17.8 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game and logged seven games with 24 points or more, including a 41-point outburst against the Nets in October.
