This week, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors, announced that they are working on a new battery that probably sends shivers down the backs of the utilities companies nationwide- a battery that would be used to power your home.
Elon announced that this is based on Tesla’s lithium-ion battery technology, and that the design is complete and production should be expected to roll out in about six months. No exact date was provided, but Elon sounded confident about the timeline.
From Elon Musk:
“We are going to unveil the Tesla home battery, the consumer battery that would be for use in people’s houses or businesses fairly soon.”
“We are trying to figure out what would be a cool stationary pack.”
“Some will be like the Model S pack: something flat, 5 inches off the wall, wall mounted, with a beautiful cover, an integrated bi-directional inverter, and plug and play.”
